- Structural Stability: The component must maintain its structural integrity, not collapsing or failing, thereby supporting the building and allowing for safe evacuation and firefighting efforts.
- Integrity: The ability to prevent the passage of flames, hot gases, and smoke from one side of the element to the other, helping to contain the fire to its area of origin and prevent it from spreading.
- Insulation: The capacity to limit the temperature rise on the unexposed side of the element to below specified levels, thus preventing the fire from spreading through heat conduction.
